We live in fast-changing and challenging times in which high quality government communications have a truly vital role to play.
The Government Communication Service (GCS) mission is to deliver world-class public service communications which support ministers’ priorities, enable the efficient and effective operation of public services, and improve people’s lives. It delivers national and international campaigns, life-saving communication and public information.
Established seven years ago, it is the professional body for civil servants working in media, marketing, digital, social, external affairs and internal communication.
Building on its successful track record, GCS is currently being reshaped as part of a modernisation programme to unify and improve government communications, enabling us to speak to the public both domestically and internationally with one voice. The programme of reform will improve professional capability and collaboration across government, and provide greater career and development opportunities for our vital communications professionals.
The new Chief Executive will hold unprecedented responsibility for leading the GCS, ensuring it is fit for the future by putting digital at the heart of what we do and working closely with communications professionals, senior officials and ministers across government.
We want to find a top executive-level team player with a strong professional background in communications, impeccable judgement and breadth of perspective, alongside a well-developed understanding of the complex political and organisational environment in which GCS operates.
My wish is that our new Chief Executive will feel stretched and excited by their work, well supported by colleagues, and excited to be part of something bigger than any of us - our mission of first-class public service.
I look forward to receiving your application.
